A few weeks ago I played an 80s cover set with my friends at an 80s Prom. It’s always fun to sing some of my favorite songs of the decade by artists such as Thompson Twins, The Cars, Dead or Alive, Simple Minds… don’t you forget about me? Are you kidding me? Who could forget those songs.
The first test to determine one’s HIV status also came out of that decade. I’d know because I tested positive in 1987 at age 11. At the time Club Nouveau’s rendition of “Lean on Me” was dividing the nation like no other song had before as it sat at #1 on the Billboard charts…
Anyway, that’s not the point of this blog post. My partner, Gwenn, is HIV negative. And we feel like it’s important for everyone to know their HIV status. That’s why we are involved with the Act Against AIDS “Doing It” campaign to encourage testing. If you haven’t been tested recently, go here and type in your zipcode to find a testing site near you!
Positively Yours,
Shawn
